2015 Camp Registration!

Registration is open for the 2015 edition of the East of the River Career Exposure Camp.  This will be our 5th year (wow can you believe it!) providing students with the unique opportunity to learn about various STEAM based careers from industry practitioners.  Hurry up and get your registration forms filled out, there are only 20 camp slots available.

The East of the River Career Exposure Camp is gearing up for its 2015 Camp session.  It also marks our 5th year anniversary as a Camp.  We are very proud of our work and excited about our future endeavors.

Looking for something for your middle school student to do in August before school starts?  You’re just in luck.  The 2014 East of the River Career Exposure Camp still has a few spaces available for its 2014 session beginning August 4th and ending August 8th.  Join us for the 4th year of our unique program as we explore career opportunities in Architecture, Aviation, and Banking.

There will be an orientation session where you can drop off your forms and ask questions Saturday August 2nd from 11am – 2pm at the Southeast White House, 2909 Pennsylvania Avenue SE Washington, DC 20020.

Good Morning Everyone!

We are so excited to inform you that the East of the River Career Exposure Camp was spotlighted by WTOP News.  Several of the students were interviewed by the reporter.

Yesterday, students took a field a trip to Reagan National Airport to tour the air traffic control tower.  The trip was coordinated to reinforce the students’ lessons on  the career field of air traffic control and their job responsibilities.

Today, students will conclude the aviation track with a trip to an air field in Virginia.  Students will be instructed by pilots and have an opportunity to ride in an airplane.

The architecture track will begin August 8, and conclude on Saturday.

The Camp will conclude on Saturday with group presentations and a closing ceremony to recognize the students’ efforts and accomplishments.

The Camp will also be featured on 89.3FM, WPFW on Community Watch and Comment at 9AM tomorrow, August 7.

Camp students applying their knowledge to build a “jelly bean” tower.

The East of the River Career Exposure Camp is now accepting applications for 20 students, who will be enrolled in the 7th, 8th and 9th grade in Fall 2013.  The Camp’s purpose is to expose students to STEM + A careers with historically low minority participation. Students will experience a hands-on project based curriculum led by volunteer industry professionals.

The camp will take place from August 5 to August 10 at the Southeast White House, 2909 Pennsylvania Avenue, S.E. Washington, D.C. 20020 from 8:30am to 3:30pm.

The youth should  reside in Ward 7 and Ward 8*, and will be exposed to professional careers with an emphasis in science, math, reading, creativity and critical thinking.

Camp activities will include hands-on activities, group projects and group presentations.  We also will have two group outings to reinforce their skills and knowledge .

The Camp will also include career exploration and academic skills development.

Students will be served breakfast and lunch, Monday to  Saturday.
